At Threadless, we do things differently. We handle most of our own production in-house, which means we have our hands on the process from start to finish to ensure consistent, high-quality results. To make sure we can offer a huge variety of canvases for your creativity, we also team up with a global network of specialized printers.
Everything you order is custom-made just for you using on-demand technology. This means we only make what is wanted, which eliminates waste and supports the local economy and artists worldwide. Here is a look at the tech behind the scenes.
The Science of DTG (Direct-to-Garment)
Think of a Direct-to-Garment printer like a futuristic inkjet printer the size of a bathroom that costs more than a house. Instead of paper, it uses blank garments. Because it is a digital process, we don't have the color limitations of traditional screen printing. You get colors that stay true to your original vision without the need for massive inventory or up-front investment.
We also care about the footprint we leave behind. Our DTG process uses NeoPigment or CMYK water-based inks that are:
- 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free
- Completely biodegradable and vegan-friendly
- Part of a waterless, dry process that saves one of our most precious resources
Museum-Quality Wall Art
For our fine art and photography, we use Giclée printing. The term is French for sprayed ink, and the results are stunning. By using archival inks on premium paper and canvas, we achieve extra-fine resolution and deep, saturated colors that capture every tiny detail of an artist's work.
